I have been a #blogger since early stages of me life during elementary school. Later, I found writing of a way to express meself, share me thoughts, and also take notes possibly useful for others or me future self.

I also started to read personal blogs of other people also known as #smallweb websites. Recently, a colleague of mine showed his blog and a post in it, and asked me to read it. From the first paragraph, it was clear it is #LLM generated. I asked him about it. He said the content is from himself but he asked an LLM to turn that content into the actual writing. I really disliked it. And he didn't understand why I disliked it so much either. From his point of view, he was trying to teach something. The learning material was from himself and he asked LLM to only generate a good text from it.

The thing is, when I write, that's a way of expressing meself, me thoughts, me opinions and so on. It has positive psychological value for me. For writing, I have a style and I keep it. Similar to an artist who has a style.

When I read personal blogs of other people, I want to connect with their minds and try to see things from their eyes. I want to somehow know how someone else is experiencing and understanding this world. When someone uses an LLM, it creates a barrier between his mind and me.

If you still don't understand, imagine when you want to talk to your friend, you let an LLM talk on your behalf. What is the point of human relations? Blogging is just a new way of human relations.

🥳 Auto Encrypt: 5.1.1 released

Many thanks to zanecodes² for catching this rather fundamental bug.

Here’s a quick post-mortem:

Implementing support for IP Address certificates³ (see Web Numbers⁴) meant that we had to stop using `SNICallback`. This necessitated two changes:

1. Provisioning the TLS certificates before starting the server instead of on first hit.

2. Manually setting a new secure context for the running server so that newly-provisioned certificates are used on future connection attempts without having to restart the server.

While I had implemented the first, I hadn’t implemented the second.

This update fixes that.

(In case you’re wondering how I didn’t notice this before, given that Auto Encrypt is used in @small-tech/https⁵, which is used in Kitten⁶, which all our sites at Small Technology Foundation⁷ run on, the change coincided with the implementation of daily scheduled restarts on Kitten production servers⁸ to give their JSDB databases⁹ a chance to compact their data (e.g., actually delete deletes and prune stale updates from the append-only log.)

Hey folks, can you help me out with a little something: trying to come up with a good number of files limit for a file scan (for Kitten so you don’t hit heap memory limits if you run it from the wrong directory by mistake) and I’d love some statistics from real JavaScript/TypeScript Node.js projects of the number of files in them (excluding .git and node_modules).

Would you be kind enough to run the following command in Terminal in your largest projects and let me know what number your get (along with a short description of the project):
