There's definitely something very bizarre going on with that crowd. They repeatedly say things that make zero sense in context of their actual real-life activities. If #Anthropic sees mortal danger then why aren't they ameliorating the danger in the easiest way possible, i.e. NOT SELLING their pseudo-AI #LLM rubbish until they've made it safer and more reliable?

But now I've arrived at the central issue, the real basilisk as it were that's been concealed by Roko Mijic's ludicrous creation: selling things. One can be reasonably certain that not one single person of any importance in corporate #software or #computing is EVER going to turn down a sale. These are people whose ethics have been blasted and shrivelled down to a vestige optimized, just as everything else in the life of such persons is optimized, for maximal "efficiency" in the John Carmack sense, i.e. mere dollars per second. They would say it was irrational to turn down the money.

What if they feel troubled about selling something broken and dangerous? That feeling is easily quenched with money: merely by becoming very rich, the #tech elites can tell themselves, they are making it possible to amend and repair whatever inadvertent damage they do in pursuit of high-tech "efficiency". In this world, money washes away all sins and thus it's immoral not to be maximally avaricious. The more money, they think, the greater the remission of sins.

I mean...just think of all the GOOD you could do with all that money! Therefore avarice is good because it maximizes the potential of doing good in the eyes of dullards who gauge basically everything, including their own personal tastes in food and entertainment et cetera, in terms of money. You can bet that this sort of geeklord thinks that a movie (let's say) is "objectively the best" because it took in the most money at the box office.
