Let's take a moment to explore the concept of my block list.

"Billy Bob" is like:

> "I like child porn and share photos and videos of child porn."

So naturally, Billy Bob ends up on the block list. But along comes "Mary Sue," and she is like:

> "I support Billy Bob, and I am going to like, share, and boost Billy Bob's post."

So naturally, Mary Sue ends up on the block list. Then along comes "John Doe," and he is like:

> "It is completely unfair of you to add Mary Sue to your block list! Mary Sue is not Billy Bob — and so what if she is liking, sharing, and boosting Billy Bob's child porn post? I do not believe anyone should use your block list, and I insist that people should block you instead."

A wise person sees the problem and knows why all of these people are now on the block list, and why anyone who claims the block list is unfair should also be on the block list. No one should be defending child porn, nor the individuals who like, share, and boost child porn posts, nor should they come to the defense of such individuals while denouncing both the block list and its creator.

I am applying this exact same logic to spammers and scammers. It is not a hard concept to understand, and it is not unfair either — unless you are pro-spammer and pro-scammer.

(Speaking personally, I see scammers as just as bad as pedophiles, because they too often prey upon the weak, vulnerable, and defenseless. Scammers are known to target the young, the elderly, and the disabled.)

Would the proper term for #phishing in #fediverse be "fishing"?

Now that many people know that both Israel "verified" and Gaza "verified" were scam groups — which I have been saying all along with previously shared, growing evidence (photos, videos, documents, etc.) — I am a little annoyed that it took Russian data centers being bombed to convince many of you... but I digress.

Let's try this again... Now that some of you have finally come around to accepting that the scam groups calling themselves Israel "verified" and Gaza "verified" were indeed scam groups, it would be unfair to forever hold you on a block list. I believe in redemption, and I know people are capable of learning from their mistakes.

So, I am setting up a simple appeal process to be removed from the public block list. It is really simple.

Make one (1) public post admitting that Linux Is Best ( @Linux / @LinuxBSD ) — that's me — was right, and share a link to the block list. The post must remain online and public for a month. It must include the hashtags #GazaVerified #IsraelVerified #Scam #Spam #Fraud #Fediverse #Russia #Bots #LinuxIsBest. You're free to add more hashtags if you like.

This is something bad-faith actors are not likely to do. And the argument of purging everyone is illogical because there are scammers, spammers, and bad-faith individuals who should be blocked by myself and everyone else.

my #fediverse multilingual anecdata is that Spanish is not only the 2nd most used language, but a big chunk of Spaniards are from “minority” languages; with Catalan, Euskarra and Gallego leading the way.

my impression of el #fediverso is that most folks are from Spain, followed by Cono Sur, México, and a smattering of everybody else, esp Puerto Rico 😘✊🏽

I have no issue with taking the GTS instance offline but I've heard it is bad fediverse etiquette to let a deleted instance, posts linger without a server to connect to.

Whenever people promote the Fediverse they usually start with the philosophy of the technical side. And then go on to define it by what it is not.

That's fine. And for many that's how they came here. But is that really why most of us stay here?

For me the main feature of the Fediverse is simply that it offers me a lot of friendly, interesting and curious people that I enjoy interacting with.

Three years ago, excavation caused a landslide in my condominium community, creating a financial nightmare I never saw coming. I own my home, but I can’t access its equity. My approved loan was pulled because of structural concerns and ongoing litigation. Insurance denied the claims, and our HOA took out a $1 million loan, increasing our monthly fees. Now, at 59, after working since I was 12, I’m facing overdue property taxes, utility shutoff, possible car repossession, and mounting debt.
