HTTP requests can now be forced to use IPv6 by setting the force_ipv6_requests configuration directive to true in server.json.

Mastodon API: Added missing requested_by field in the relationships entrypoint (contributed by Uilebheist), implemented the followers entrypoint (contributed by Uilebheist), use Mastodon's RFC3339 format for markers (contributed by nowster), fixed posts with muted words not being filtered out, fixed editing of media alt texts.

Tweaked HTML to avoid elinks complaining about a missing '#top' fragment.

Fixed a bug that made deleting the notification email address impossible.

RSS timelines are now cached because fuckers hammer for them continuously (probably AI crap bots).

OK So I have #Littlefedi running in a #FreeBSD Bastille jail. I can now toot, DM and follow plus become followed. I do have a couple of issues like I followed a gotosocial account back that followed me and it failed constantly retrying for some reason? Also I tried to follow my #Snac account yet it sits at requested and no notification on snac. I'm sure with @stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe help I'll iron these issues out in the coming week?

Is it possible to have my snac instance use TOR to federate *and* to have it available over clearweb at the same time?

Would this mean that my instance pulls data from other instances using TOR, but other instances would only use the clearweb to pull data from me, so they could be blocked at the national level?

At first after using snac (coming from mastodon for example),
you feel like the UI is too minimal. Then you realize it's not
minimal at all, it's just getting out of your way.

You focus on the messages and not on the interface.

snac(8) states that

Emoji values can also be URLs to image files; in this case, they will not be substituted in the post content, but added to the 'tag' array as an ActivityPub standard 'Emoji' object (it's recommendable that the Emoji key be enclosed in colons for maximum compatibility with other ActivityPub implementations, like e.g. :happydoggo:). These images can be served from an external source or from the static directory of the instance admin.

@ploum @stefano I absolutely did for a while too. At some point I switched to Gotosocial because of issues with my iOS clients (likely fixed since then).

I do keep a my old #snac instance alive as an archive and update it just as easily as in the past years with that little script that just fetches the source and compiles.

I wonder if minimalist people could use it to completely replace their Mastodon use, in the long term too (maintainance, keeping up with changes in API, etc)

I like Mastodon, I really do. But it has so, so many dependencies, and updating it on illumos or OpenBSD is getting really difficult, release after release.

Some dependencies are primarily distributed as binaries, or only build on Linux and macOS. It's not Mastodon's fault, but it depends on them.

That’s why, in my opinion, solutions like snac, GoToSocial, or littleFedi have a reason to exist: all of this is much, much easier...

On the other, whenever a post from someone you follow gets in, snac tries to retrieve (following the inReplyTo fields chain) all the conversation up to the beginning to give you some context in the conversation. It may happen that, if that account you follow deletes their post, the replied post is left in your timeline, for no apparent reason.

The best way to include links with unusual characters in #snac is to use the Markdown syntax for links, like in East of Eden.

That is, an open square bracket, then the alt text, then the open bracket, then the url, then the close bracket (see snac(5) for more info).

I do host my own single user #snac server and want to keep it that way. I do have more than one account, but since I am by myself - my local timeline is useless. If I only could have geographically close messages in there!

This feature belongs into #ActivityPub and not in one implementation of it!

Because it's technically impossible to set up a Fediverse server with absolutely no AI code underneath whatsoever

PRs, diff patches and bug reports must not incorporate any material generated by or with the assistance of any so-called "generative AI" tool or LLM.

If I recall correctly, the Gotosocial Fediverse software also have a very clear position in this topic (i.e. no AI).

You're very right in the OS positions regarding LLMs, sadly. The nearest to what I approve is NetBSD, but it's not totally clean.

Fixed a bug in the notification page that made snac hang forever while trying to read abnormally big files.

Improved support for text-only web browsers: it's now possible to configure a set of web browser user-agent strings that will receive simpler HTML in the private timeline web UI. Basically, it consists in avoiding details / summary HTML tags as much as possible.

Added some fixes to media proxy code.

Fixed EmojiReact code to allow any emoticon defined in emojis.json, not only those with colon-wrapped identifiers.

Fixed a bug in notification filtering (paging was sometimes incorrect).

Added a notification filter for Webmentions.

Mastodon API: Don't return reactions count as string (contributed by mkljczk), implemented GET /v1/media (contributed by clairemont).

Fixed bug in documentation examples (contributed by Sprite_tm).

Updated Ukrainian and Russian translations (contributed by wincentbalin and koru).
