Running a small or single user instance in the ? Get connected to other instances by a relay!

I just adjusted my relay instance which now also finally supports ! Of course, it also supports Pleroma, snac, Mastodon, littlefedi, starling and many other ones!

With relays, your own posted content gets distributed to all connected instances, as well you get the content all other instances. Currently, mostly tech related instances are connected, focusing on , , / , and many other things!

There is a person I've been helping for a while who runs two instances, one and one .

Yesterday, they suffered severe file system corruption on their device, and I lent them a hand with the recovery. For GoToSocial, they restored the DB from the previous backup and got it running again. For snac, although a few files were lost, no action was necessary... it just started back up and did what it had to do, bringing the instance back to full operation.

This goes to show that when software is well-designed and intentionally kept simple, it's also easier to get back up and running when something goes wrong. In this case, snac's "files-only" approach demonstrated excellent resilience.

        Thanks, @grunfink !

Ich hab den Code für den @umstritten Bot mal auf Codeberg gepackt:

Ist im Prinzip nur ein kurzes Shellscript, das als Instanz, bzw. ActivityPub Gateway verwendet.

Sat down to play some games and record gameplay for my YouTube channel, but got happily distracted by all the wonderful discussions on the Fediverse about books, watches, movies, privacy and games. The Fediverse is awesome and it's because of all you awesome folks on the Fediverse! Thanks y'all.

snac2 + phanpy is an awesome combination! works perfectly with and phanpy can even be used as a PWA on iOS. Nice!

If you want to give phanpy a try, I run an instance of it here.

I love that the server surfaces if someone has blocked me. I get a nice notification that I was blocked every so often -- but there is one person that I am well aware of whenever they change instances (and they do it often enough that I notice) who blocks me each time.

I might not be famous, but I guess I'm infamous! Whee!

Markdown is only supported in the Hometown and GlitchSocial forks of Mastodon. Vanilla Mastodon will probably never have it, because they're going for that classic Twitter UX, for better or for worse.

Many non-Mastodon fedi servers like #GtS and #snac2 support #Markdown.

I don't know about Friendica, *oma, and *key, though.

@CursedSilicon No the front end is the built-in one. Just with a replaced style.css. That's the only customisation. It is *really* easy to customise. See https://weirdr.net/snac/ and https://larry.weirdr.net/ for two additional #snac2 instances using different style.css.
You can steal/grab those styles by saving the style.cas file your browser downloads :)

@CursedSilicon It's just a single CSS file. Just grab it from there if you want. :) The #snac2 Codeberg repo has a link to a bunch of themes, including this one. I submitted a PR on it but I don't think it's been accepted yet.

Adding the neighborhood feed to snac has been great as a curated “public” tab. I wonder if I can expose it as a list so it shows up on the clients. It's a shame I can only use it on web.

Two things you can see here... It's pretty hot! That's why I stayed home and implemented a missing feature into snac. That's what you can also see - it finally sends push notifications to devices! In this case, we can see notifications coming from App for iPhone.

What we can also see, it's still a bit faulty and not the expected content, but a first success here at least ;) I'll make some further adjustments when there's time and get in touch with @grunfink@comam.es to check if we can get this upstream. Thanks to @stefano@bsd.cafe for testing with me :)

snac is rather awesome software. It's lightweight, exceedingly fast and just works.
